I was wondering if anyone has heard any news of Wacom releasing the Intuous 5 before I go out and purchase the Intuous 4?
Also was wondering if anyone thinks it is better to get the Cintiq?
Does anyone think Wacom will start releasing more products similar to the Cintiq? With touch screen technology being used more and more is it a waste to get an Intuous... will products like the Cintiq go down in price?
I just want to know if anyone has any info.... serious responses are appreciated.

The Cintiq is definetly a better choice. Hefty price tag though.
I do love the Intuous 4 I have at home, but I use the Cintiq when I teach Advanced digital Illustration.

balls, they're coming out with a 5? i just got the 4 for christmas...

I am not sure if they are coming out with 5 as of yet.... just curious if they are going to anytime soon....
I would have the same reaction as bigtrick if I bought the 4 only to find out a new version was coming out within the next couple of months.... so if anyone has heard of any release date for a 5 let us know....I heard the Cintiq does not do well with earthtomes... is this true? Also can my Macbook Pro laptop (v1) handle the Cintiq?

i still think its funny that the ive you a wireless mouse that only works on top of the tablet... ha

Cintiq is not necessarily a better choice, totally depends on what you are using it for.
Cintiq is better for illustration / visualising techniques for sure, but just for using it with Adobe programs for everyday use I'd prefer an Intuos over a Cintiq any day.
Therefore I use a Intuos4 tablet. Can't use a mouse anymore, too slow and not accurate enough.
- This is true actually ....I use the Cintiq for Illustrationmarychain

Jordy thanks for the insight... I will probably go with the Intuos 4 Medium...
Peter thanks for the prior release dates... If I were to go by the prior release dates then a it may be another year or so before the next gerneration is released. Let's hope that is the case.
Again thanks to everyone who commented!

I was wondering if anyone has any new info to share concerning this topic?
With the release of quite a bit of touch screen technology, one would assume that Wacom would be releasing more products similar to the Cintiq...
It almost does not make sense at the moment to invest in a tablet right now if new products could be released soon.... does it?

You're not buying an iPhone... you are simply buying an input device. What are you concerned about? do you really think wacom is going to release a touchscreen intuos4?? What can they possibly do to the intuos line to make the intuos4 "investment" obsolete? the intuos line will stay fundamentally the same. You think they'd do something as radical and stupid as getting rid of the pen and having you use your fingers? no they wont.
If you want cintiq then go that route.
I've used an intuos3 6x9 daily for the past 4 years. I'm using it right now. Trust me I can still go to sleep knowing that the intuos4 is out.
- My thought is that if Apple releases a touch screen laptop that such input devices would become obsolete. Unless they conform to some newer technology. I am not talking about using your finger either. Let's say Apple releases a new laptop, that a has a screen where you can use a pen... well that would change the game.kshinabery212
- They'd also have to move the screen.ribit

genforth....
Good points. I don't think they will get rid of a pen. But let's say Apple finally releases a touch screen laptop that can work in a similar fashion to an iPad and utilize a pen, then the whole game would change.
Maybe I am wrong or thinking to far ahead.

Eventually every screen and tablet will accept both pen and finger input, mainly because it gets too confusing if you keep switching devices and they only accept one input type. I'd say Intuos tablets will run alongside Cintiq for some time.. there's plenty of people who prefer to sketch with the screen further away from them, and no hand getting in the way of their view.

kshinabery212,
A "touch screen laptop" is essentially their iPad. Apple is going to continue perfecting their gestures and touch screen technology. They will never go backwards and focus on a pen when the average user can do all of their computing with their fingers. Right now you can buy a pen to use as an input device on an ipad. It is nothing like wacom's offerings AND IT NEVER WILL COME CLOSE and I'll tell you why:
A wacom is designed for the creative (a very small niche market) to give the most accurate and realistic way of drawing on a computer– there are 2048 levels of pressure, a pen tip sensor and the ability to tell what angle the pen is being held at. The average user doesn't need this at all.
To incorporate this type of technology into an ipad, or their next "touch screen laptop" would be way too costly and only useful for a very small % of users. And then there is also a sizing issue... they'd essentially would need to release 3 or 4 different sized ipads to accommodate what an artist needs.
Let's say in 6 years all of our computer's are just large touch screens. I bet that creatives will still be paying more for a cintiq type device or still be plugging in a intuos type of device for inputing.

I understand exactly what you are saying and I totally see your points. I guess only time will tell how the industry goes. I am sure there will be a new development at some point. Let's just hope it is a good one and affordable.
Again, not disagreeing....

Does anyone here have the wireless Intuos 4? I noticed it now has Display Toggle which allows you to toggle through multiple monitors. I bought the wired Intuos 4 a while back but returned it because it didn't work correctly on multiple monitors (I actually thought I had a buggy device, so I returned that and got a Bamboo Pen and Touch Fun. Only then did I realize the issue was because I have multiple monitors).
Does anyone here have experience with using this with multiple monitors and the display toggle? Is it a pain in the ass to continue switching between monitors? Wondering if it's worth purchasing this again....
- You must have one serious set-up! Sounds really cool!kshinabery212
