for future reference: disk warrior, disk warrior, disk warrior, disk warrior.
though if a drive dies like that. it's best to recover what you can and toss it, it will fail again soon.
anyway, you can get a WD caviar black 500gb for less than 50 bucks.

I bought a new 1 TB internal drive at Tekserve, NYC for $129. I'm going to install it tonight. Hopefully I won't have any problems with all of my completely legally obtained software.
I had Disk Warrior, but it kept crashing on me. I think the drive was a lost cause though.
- ah yeah, did you shop at

This is not working out so great. I'm not getting my Time Machine Disk to show up as an option to install from the system disk or from Migration Assistant.
Is there some trick to this? I'm going to try to boot from the Time Machine disk now.

I feel for you. My 6 month old MBP died a few weeks ago right after I started a big job...awesome ! I was secure in the fact that I had a Time Capsule at home and had been backing up via Time Machine religiously. I knew I would have to reinstall software but I was o.k. with that. After receiving my new hard drive I attempting to migrate via Time Machine and most folders came up with question marks. My pictures folder showed up but said there was nothing in it. My clients folder showed but was also empty, I lost everything ! What good is Time Machine and a new computer ?..ugh

VICTORY IS MINE!
I got everything back. I haven't needed to reinstall any software so far. Master Collection, Office, Transmit - all good.I accidentally reinstalled the system instead of going to Disk Utility from the Snow Leopard DVD first. The next time I did it right. I have everything back so far. Browsers, iTunes library. I'm afraid to start Adobe stuff now.
- that's great.akrok
- fingers and toes crossed, man - good luck!DoktorDavid
- Yeah, forget that second bit about Adobe, I wrote that first and forgot to re-edit my own typing.CyBrain

By the way, Tekserve was going to charge me $150 to install the hard drive. Replacing a hard drive in a Mac Pro is as easy as taking off the case, removing the old one from the left bay, unscrewing four screws from the metal carrier in the bay and putting the new one in. It took about 10 minutes.
