So, I have a project that I created using 658 individual layers in illustrator. Essentially, its just one piece of work per layer - always the same shape (heart) with different designs in them.
Im wondering if there is a way to automate the import of 658 layer of an illustrator document into a 658 page InDesign document (without, obviously, going layer by layer) any help guys?
Thanks!

cant you just do select all, copy paste into indesign?

I'll say export your file as psd
- check write layers
- export - cmyk, 300dpi, blah blahopen photoshop.
- import document
- make all layer invisible
- create an action that make the "layer visible - saves it as pdf/jpg/etc - then cancels the layer after saving
- click stop
now go to automate > batch > chose folder > click ok > let the magic work > done-
now I think you'll have to do it manualy to import in indesign, but don't forget you can queue imports by selecting more than one file
- btw check the action click "play" before automating itgeorgesIII

unless you're a javascript expert, you're probably going to want to export layers as individual files and then import them that way.

you are going to crash sooo much sh*t

... and in the future, don't make an illustrator file with 658 layers.

you can export as a PSD, each layer will be added into photoshop.
you can then place your PSD file and select what 'layer' of the PSD file you won't shown.
You also could import to photoshop then create an action to export each layer.

- place your *PSD file in Indesign*VikingKingEleven
- this is more work than manually placing them into Illustrator, with worse results and massive file sizesdoublespaced

actually if you just place the .ai with 658 layers into an indesign master page, then edit the visible layer for each instance of link.
indesign > object layer options...
- this is better because rasterizing all that would just make it look worsedoublespaced

that will be an expensive book to print...
