Hard Drive Recovery Misery

So my main data driver made a funny noise and corrupted half the items on it :(
Boo.
Luckily I had backed up remotely the most important current client work, and I can just copy their sites back off the server.
But, I foolishly ran a CHKDSK /r before running my Recovery app, so all my file structures and file names are gone. I'm currently just recovering JPGs and manually inspecting each one to see if it's worth saving. Things like family pictures and so on.
Guess it'll be trickier for like php and psds which I'll have to manually inspect.
Fuck this. Thinking of just getting a new HDD and putting the known good stuff onto it from my backup and redoing/recreating/re-obtaining anything I need as I go along.
Sound right ?

Have you thought of RAID setup? Like Drobo or something similar?

ive lost alot of data becuase of HD deaths. The good thing is all your work afterwords is better then the previous. And sames you time form wondering what should be saved... but makes it hard to remember what stolen/bought music you previously had

FYI drobo has some real performance issues. Not recommended for anything other than nightly backups/disaster recovery.
Raid 1 ought to take care of your needs.
