Anyone own a Pentax K-x?
Appears to be a great camera (comparable to 550d / t2i - stills wise) at a very cheap price.
Just wanting users thoughts an experiences with the camera.
Thanks.

I'm pretty happy with mine. I happened to get lucky in that both my and my wife's old film SLR cameras were Pentax lenses, and you can still use any old K mount lens if you're ok doing everything manually (we've got a 50mm, 135mm and a couple zooms).
Not having a manual release is kind of lame, and it doesn't take the biggest photos, and a few other little things, but whatever - I'm perfectly happy with it.

thanks bigtrick, very good to know! 1.2 is pretty sexy!

@the fat baron
explain this manual release business? what is it eh?
Also i hear not having autofocus points in the EVF is annoying, but do you get used to it?
biggest photos? 12MP yeh? thats enough for me, considering its high iso is decent!
there is a deal in the UK for a 2 lens kit for £400, which seems like a bargain!

I dislike that this camera lacks a port for a wired remote or intervalometer. It also lacks the capability for tethered shooting with Lightroom or Aperture....
- Hombre_Lobo_20
tethered shooting isnt a biggie. Its not expected that you would do studio work with an entry level camera.
but not intervalometer is a tad annoying...thanks for pointing it out mate!

Well my original thought when I bought the camera was that I could shoot tethered and write some apple script to act like an intervalometer...
So after reading some stuff online I bought a IR remote and a wired intervalometer and connected them together... It was more technical then connecting them together...hahaAlso the fact that it has no rechargeable battery included... It uses AA batteries and has the worst performance of battery life then any entry level SLR i've ever used...

No way mark, i've heard the double AA battery was more convenient as they are more accessible.
Good to know. Thanks dude.

Just checking up on this:
There's no regular wired shutter release (i.e. the old wired cable that you'd press down). You'd need the IR remote.AA vs rechargable: I took over 1500 photos on a single set of AA batteries (the lithium ones). If you check the dpreview.com reviews for cameras, in the performance section, they give an estimate of the # of photos you can take on a single charge/set of batteries using flash on half of them.

^thanks dude :)
i whore on dpreview quite a bit, the reviews are second to none. Yeh i read the review and it seemed to think the AA battery set up was fine.
Maybe mark had a bad set of batteries or duff camera?

I had 3 different Pentax dslr, the last one was K10D. My constant gripe (and eventual reason to switch systems) was the AF was slow and useless in lower light. K10D had the best AF but still far from what Nikon and Canon had been doing for years. I
I hope that has changed now. Speaking of batteries, AA are 1.5V but AA rechargeables only 1.2V. The best battery performance was from CRV3 rechargeables, with an extra feature: the AF was faster due to higher voltage.

I never liked the shape of noise in Pentax dslr in higher iso, even K20D—which had good iso performance—still had it. The noise wasn't film-like grainy, it looked like sawdust.
