wrox is good. the extra layer of vb won't benefit you much, as most everyone these days uses c#.

Update for those interested. The book above is quite good. Well written with logical progression and curve. I never really understood how much value and efficiency .NET actually offers in development. I am gaining a new appreciation for it.

should be all you need:
http://w3schools.com/aspnet/defa…most books are only good as references, even the small pocket ones. the rest draw out the learning experience with contrived and often bloated 'real-world' examples that usually convolute the subject even more.
if you know php, .net should be a super simple thing to pick up.

ASP.NET is more framework, PHP is more language, I'm sure you already know that....
I've never done ASP.NET except for a few surprise moments having to fix code that was broken on deadline while dev was not available....
I too find most ASP.NET books full of random shit I'd rather not pollute my brain RAM with, and I don't need to drink the conceptual Kool-Aid, just want to get little things done.... so I'll follow this tread....
