Has anybody used this? I'm supposed to go to training for it next week and I'm not even sure what to expect...
Any input at all outside of what's avail from adobe would be hugely helpful as I'm a bit lost (normal).

More boring shit no one cares about, I don't want fucking "platforms" i want some decent modern tools

^ Clueless.
Scene7 is a powerful tool. Sucks for Adobe though that I'm working on a project that will blow it out of the water.

What's the scoop on Adobe and Microsoft? Have you heard anything more about that?

For an ecommerce site/platform scene 7 is badass.
I used it before adobe bought them - it automates a lot of boring shit you would have to do for multiple product views, multiple colors, that sort of thing.
After adobe bought it they added integration with flash and Photoshop so you (the designer) can make some pretty fool proff templates/processes and a content manager can do all the production monkey work.
it is definitely worth a look.

The swatching abilities are great. The ability to dynamically add type on images for personalization, like email campaigns are outstanding.
If you're just using it for zoom/thumbs it's a massive waste of money. One of my clients was looking at something like $30K a year for a license. I would say it depends on the number of SKUs your site has. More than 10,000 and it might be worth it.
