Hey team,
Does anyone have any recommendations for books that act as a primer/intermediate instructional manual for designing type? Specifically Serif faces. It's something I've wanted to get into - but want to educate myself a bit before I jump in. Any thoughts/suggestions?

And don't forget Moamoa & 5timuli, they were working on a typeface, but I think it's on hold.

I could learn on my own - and plan on it - but I don't have resources around me (knowledgeable people, experience, etc.) to mentor from. graduate school would be great, but I don't have the $ for it. Just want to read up on rules, tips, tricks, technique and history to better prepare myself for experimentation.

Without a master to learn from books are probably the next best thing as far as type design goes. The good ones really stress the nuances of designing type...Which lets face it; good type design is in the details.

it's a very vast subject.... takes months/years to design a decent typeface...
read robert bringhurst 'elements of typographic style'
