I have an image (jpg) that's only 1.3mb and about 10in x 6.2in; 300dpi (3000px X 1865px).
I need to scale it up and keep it sharp to 118in x 32in.
How would I best go about this?
Thanks (I'm normally web, but've been asked to do something print).

Have you tried sending it to CSI?

In the end, it doesn't have to be 300dpi at that size

genuine fractals or other resizing software will help, but they're really intended to be used for high res enlarged to poster/billboard size.
you might be disappointed with results.
also check with your oversize printer, they may not need 300dpi.

Any other way rather than paying for something? Not got the budget for it...

Normally for large format its 300dpi at 25%. So I'd get it as good as you can at 25%. Scale it to 300dpi in PS and make sure you have 'resample image' unchecked. Then if you need to scale it up further you can, add some noise to sharpen it up and get rid of artefact from scaling.
Also remember that if its a poster its not really meant to be viewed up close, the print is usually much coarser so you have a little leeway on it.
The best advice though, is talk to your printer. See what size and res they need it at and work to that.

what's it for? most large scale print doesn't need to be 300dpi because people won't be viewing it up close like they would a brochure etc.
Otherwise billboard artwork would be like a terabyte.- d'oh ian beat me to it, read his ^BaskerviIle
- I beat ian to it a few posts upmonospaced

if you don't want to pay, increase size in small increments using photoshop/ image size/ "bicubic smoother/ best for enlargement" setting.
maybe +25 ppi each step.

1.3 mb @ 10x6? Open in photoshop and see what Mb size is. It should be about 21meg? If it is actually 10x6 at 300dpi it prolly good enough for a billboard or a big inkjet print. Just my 2¢.
