Steve J. and his faded, slightly wrinkled, black mock turtle necks are wearing me down. There's a MacBook Pro on the horizon.
This configuration goes for a couple of mortgage payments ($2500) on the Apple site:
2.4GHz Intel Core i5
8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB
500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen DisplayAside from running Adobe CS, I will be taking video editing classes (something I've wanted to do for a while) and so I will be installing the appropriate software for that as well. Also planning on running Bootcamp or Parallels (which ever runs Windows programs best).
Not familiar with Mac performance necessities - is this good? Thanx in advance.

I think you will be better off getting a higher processor than more RAM.
You can always get more RAM if you're not satisfied, but you can't swap processors.I am not so sure about the 7200 drive either. While slightly faster than a 5400, not as fast as a Seagate XT 7200 hybrid drive which isn't very expensive on its own.
You can get a separate XT and replace it yourself, it's easy and allowed without breaking the warranty.

+1 to raf.

Also, unless you have money to burn, buy refurbs, that's what a lot of people here do. They look, feel and smell just "as new as new", only come in plain cardboard boxes.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/37…I just got one (replaced a regular 7200 Seagate drive) and I can feel the difference.
