I was reading earlier about how some of the insurance companies are going to hike up their prices if you use social media site such as facebook etc...
A friend of mine in the Balti last night was telling me how his found him on facebook and then contacted him telling him his insurance was going up.
Is this not a type of stalking or intrusion??

How is it stalking?

Because there are overly narcissistic twats who feel compelled to update the general public on their every move – someone like me is assumed to be making the same bad judgement calls. i don't give my whereabout updates and rarely say much of anything specific to my daily life. i'm certainly not signing up for the 'places' function.

I don't get the status updates on facebook. I don't need to hear that you're giving birth at the moment.

It's not just using social media - way to over-simplify the issue.
it is using the location feature that is at issue - the insurance companies claiming you advertise that you are not at home when you use such things.
But as scarabin says, the insurance industry is populated solely by douchbags and asshats and therefore no one should be surprised they are using this as an excuse to make more money.

- You can always just make your profile settings more private.monospaced

I used to work for an investment bank, when asked what the company did I always said gambling. People weren't sure if I was joking or what I meant...
Until fall of 2008 came, now they get it.

I suggest that anyone who posts from a fast-food place or bar should be charged and additional fee since they clearly live an unhealthy lifestyle.

Who the fuck allows their insurance agency to view their profile page in the first place?
- maybe they pay facebook good money to have full accessjetSkii
- that would be incredibly illegal and immoral on so many levels; could never happenmonospaced
- almost like wire-tapping public phones; it takes terrorist threats to even consider thatmonospaced

if this is true, and companies jump on this, they better be specific about the details. just because someone 'is on facebook' doesn't mean they use places, give status updates or say they are attending something...
