The gigawatt is equal to one billion (109) watts. This unit is sometimes used for large power plants or power grids. For example, in 2009, the installed capacity of wind power in the US was 35.2 GW and the installed capacity of wind power in Germany was 25.8 GW.[5] The Nuclear Plant Doel has a peak output of 3.0 GW.
In the film Back To The Future the term is pronounced "jiggawatt" in reference to the 1.21 GW of electricity needed to power the fictional Delorean time machine. Though obscure, the "j" sound is still an accepted pronunciation.

New Back to the Future Games Nab Original Film Talent
Telltale Games, creators of Sam & Max and Monkey Island episodic games, are hard at work on all-new Back to the Future games chronicling the time-traveling adventures of Marty McFly and Doc Brown.
The developer has tapped the talents of Christopher Lloyd to voice ol' Doc Brown, with Back to the Future screenwriter Bob Gale coming onboard to "consult" on the creation of the episodic game series.

I always wondered why they had to time the lightning at the clock tower so exactly. I would have just jacked the back end so the tires were off the ground, ran a cable from the tower straight into the flux capacitor and sat there stationary, revving the engine.
My movie would have sucked.
