out source it to freelancer.com for 50 bucks then pocket 250....work smart dude not dumb

Yeah dude, just explain that you get what you pay for, and for $300 - they're getting a wordpress installation and a pre-designed theme with their logo on it, and their content pages. Nothing more. If they're only willing to pay $300, you can still make $300 on a few hours worth of work. Don't see the issue. If they want a custom design, you explain the cost of that. Custom features, explain the cost.
- If thats their budget, then this type of setup will likely impress them.oddslob

I find that it's always good to have a handful of junior designers somewhere that you can deflect these jobs onto.

so I was looking on google for "cheapest web design"
just so I can make a joke and say something like "send them to this guy" hopefully a 11 year old with a horrid looking site. But instead I saw this:
http://www.google.com/search?cli…Look at the list, wouldn't you think is horrible that when you ask a client:
- Hey thanks for hiring me, how did you even heard about me?
- That was easy, I just google "Cheap web design" and your name was the first link.

If your really hard up, get the 300 up front then build them something you think is worth the pay. Everyone knows, you get what you pay for.

charge 300$ for a WIP page.
- nbq0
tell them that 300$ is for a blank page.
- But I could do it for 250$nbq
- I charge 150$ for blank pages and 50$ for favicon.icoernexbcn
- what's a blank page? a page with nothing on it?Mick_Jagger
- yup.
nbq - you want one?nbq
- here's the code just for you:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"><html><head><title></title></head><body></body></html>nbq - <head><title></title></head><body></body></html>nbq

Or they can go get a template for $25 since thats good enough for most companies out there.
- yes... and ask them to count the hours it takes them to customize it themselves....vaxorcist

Just break it down a different way, i.e. my time = $100-75/Hr, a website takes X amount of time, it's pretty hard to argue with that, they are not paying for a website, they are paying for your TIME.

yeah why should you take their business seriously if they don't
- cannonball19780
I dont bother about telling them that there is a rushed option. Because frankly, it's not an option.

What I usually do is this:
Let them know they get what they pay for. Usually for $300 they are getting something quick, rushed, template job with no thought to their brand or business objectives. People who get a $300 site most likely have to get another website months later because it does nothing for their business. So if they are serious about their business they are going to need to invest more and get it done right the first time.
I also then transition into why we are better, and why custom web design is better, etc. So explain the cons of getting a $300 website and the pros of working with you.

Typical, people who don't have a clue, place no value on the things that count.

Or maybe your client just doesn't think you're very good ;)
