I think if theres an infinite scroll like that the menu needs to float at the top at all times

I think you guys are being too harsh. It's a site that actually takes a different approach to the layout. There is some information overload going on, but it's an approach to consider for a site like that IMO, whatever issues you might have with the execution.
Anyway, I do agree with blogger's suggestion earlier: the type is small to the point where it's making me less likely to stick around and read the article. The bar at the top, while I like the idea of it staying in place, doesn't have options that I really care much about - I don't know who these authors are or care all that much. I wonder if the top area could be more compact while still retaining the same show/hide functionality like you have now.

Blog + Blog + Blog + Other people's blogs + Twitter + Other people's Twitter = Dazed Digital
- Thank you calculatorukit

Oh no, the most viewed bit has broke! Like the site though.

one detail that bothered me: if I am reading an article and want to click through the pictures the whole site is loading new (and for a splitsecond, I get a blank screen)... I‘d rather like a smooth javascript slideshow gallery or whatever
- There's a "good" reason for that: page views = CPM!kulor

Really like it... only comment is clicking through the images is a little annoying

The grid is all over the place,
I do like some of the design
elements though...

Thanks for the nice reasoned replies guys - some really useful observations and arguments.
With sites that try to be different your never going please everyone but overall its been a great success for those involved.

Layouts like this have been around for a while. Kind of weird that so many of you react like it's coming out of nowhere.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the person who designed this is familiar with the concept of negative space.
