hi all,
I've got about 7000 posts that need to be backdated, 50 posts each day, for archive purposes. is there a way to mass edit the timestamps?googling cost me 2 hours of my life and brought nothing, please help.
always yours,

i'm guessing if you were handy with mysql it would be easy to write a script to do that direct in myphpadmin

"googling cost me 2 hours of my life"
- 1. it's for wp 2.6
2. it's for pages, not posts
3. thx for looking by, smartassjimbojones - damn, well thanks for ruining what could have been a hilarious send upukit
- gotcha, that plugin totally works!jimbojones

I'm kind of surprised there's no plugin for this. How about this:
-Export the 7000 posts an XML file
-In Textmate, Dreamweaver or similar program, do a find and replace with regular expressions
-Delete the originals, and import the new posts with updated datesEssentially the same as doing a SQL update but a little safer/easier

I know, why can I mass edit category, status and whatnot, but not timestamps... Unfortunately I don't have admin access, so your solution falls short. The most I can do is tell the admin to install a plugin. I guess it's another moon on a stick for me.

If you don't have admin acces it wont work but you could edit the archive template to show any order you want using a custom query. (see custom loops)
Do you have posts in any other format? .csv
if so
- edit date in excell
- save as cvs
use bulk delete plugin and then
use csv importer plugin to upload again.Good luck.
- yeah, thanks, but no admin access - no luck :(jimbojones

you can pay me to write a plugin for you.
- jimbojones0
Yes! Of all brilliant solutions I was hoping for, paying a complete stranger on QBN is EXACTLY what I need!
- jimbojones0
this is really funny, in an unrelated thread about closed software, a complete stranger wrote a small script to help; in a thread about open source software I should pay strangers and give handjobs.
- acescence0
oh, so you're doing wordpress work for free as well? what you're after is not a "small script" so pay up, learn the shit yourself, or fuck right off.

1. get into thread
2. have nothing to add
3. spam
4. act offended
5. ???
6. profit

I have a solution. Go on Mechanical Turk or Guru.com/ similar site and hire someone from India to manually enter the dates for $50.
- I'm way ahead of you, and it cost me only 35 bucks.jimbojones

sql update from the myadmin console. Easy

wait, I had nothing to add? I offered to solve your problem, you're the one who who got offended that i'd dare ask for a few bucks for my time.
