Can one choose NOT to use Ping? I haven't DLed the iTunes update yet, so I don't know how it works.
All I know is I don't want to socialise digitally through my Mac's MP3 player. Enough is enough, ffs.

I was watching Future Weapons on Discovery last night and they were showing off the AA-12 automatic 12 gauge shotgun with 32 round magazine. I got to thinking how cool it would be if assault rifles had social media components. In the military there is a pretty big invisible divide between lower and higher ranking soldiers, and something like Ping but for assault weapons would really bring everybody together.

You know, between 'social' this, 'cloud' that and 'share' the other thing, surely we must be reaching a saturation point with all of this. I mean, really.
Eventually, there's going to be a backlash against all of this sort of stuff, and people will go back (well, partially, anyway) to having lives away from their computers, gadgets and the internet.

i know i'm old but ffs, i hate my friends' music (well most of it), and they are preettty rude about my tastes. if we want to talk about music we do it face to face, over a beer or summat.
why the fuck should i care what music they're listening to? or have bought? or what music the musicians i listen to have bought? it's all part of this "fake world" that is conjured up by facebook/twitter et al where you supposedly become part of these people's inner circle, but actually are little more than a member of a glorified fan club.
and why does apple feel the need to get involved in this shit? just gimme a simple and fast download & play app and leave it at that.
and stop with the fecking 70's vignettes - they're doing my head in!

I believe the only way to turn off Ping is to disable the iTunes store via Parental Controls... that in itself seems like a huge mistake.
Say "no thanks" to both Ping and those annoying purchase arrows in one click. Sure OK, fine with me.
