I'm looking to take attend a course on AS3...
Anyone ever attend a class at any of the following schools?
- Loadstone Digital
- Animus Training
- Future Media Concepts
They're all Adobe Certified.
If you have other suggestions, I'd like to hear 'em.

fine suggestion. but for me, videos are good to a point. I like the ability to ask questions of the instructor and push the superficial examples.

Is there a reason why you want to learn AS3 at this point? It's been out for a while, plus HTML5.

learning AS3 or any OOP language will make you that more valuable... ... think mobile apps etc... (that and the fact Flash isn't going anywhere anytime soon...)...
... it's not all HTML5/CBLAHBLAH... ... I play w/my phone apps far more than I attempt to read the internet in a 4" x 2.5" area (if you're that lucky)...
... learning HTML5/CSS is smart though... ... just don't believe all the OOP hate. ;)
- yes... it's NOT about as3 or whatever, it's about thinking differently, learning fast...vaxorcist

I think may people who freak out about flash winning or losing the short-term future have themselves bet that if they memorize enough stuff, and jump on the right API/Language at the right time, they'll be rich and happy and never have to relearn and start over...
I think we're all in the API-of-the-month club these days, and knowing how to learn a new API, once you are aware of OOP thinking isn't that hard, provided it isn't full of random bugs to keep track of....
So people who get mad and seek stability are those who fear new stuff and may have just memorized enough shortcuts to get work done, but don't really get the whole idea of object oriented programming...

Just because they are Abode Certified, doesn't mean they are good teachers of AS3.
But for a small fee I can teach you everything you know.

I don't think you are making a good choice. You probably not following the news lately about demise of Flash. It will probably still exists but there are too many Flash developers who are still in demand.
If you want to bet on the future learn HTML 5. This is a good place to start http://slides.html5rocks.com/

Seriously, don't invest your time/money on learning actionscript in any way. That's a waste.

As much as I'm a proponent of HTML/CSS/Javascript/Canvas (indeed, they are my primary areas of knowledge), I believe that learning AS3 is still very relevant and very beneficial. Not only are there still plenty of openings for flash folk (and will be for a while), the tenets of OOP necessary to write AS3 well are absolutely transferable to other languages. Plus, the syntax is really similar to Javascript. You're gonna need to know to a little HTML/CSS/JS to get flash stuff on the web anyway. Don't learn AS3 at the exclusion of learning these other things, but definitely learn it if you feel like you want to.
I know that's not at all what the original question was, but this thread is threatening to derail into a conversation about the merits of learning AS3, and I just had to insist that it is an absolutely valid pursuit.
- whoops. looks like i was a little late to the party. this thread is 2 weeks oldiamaracinghorse
