Considering that all these overly hyped SRLs (5D/ 7D/ D90) that cost around £1-2K apparently shoot video at the same quality than a compact camera...
Are there any decent film cameras you can get for £1-2 K??
I checked the Sony XDCAMs but they are around £5K!

also just because the body of the camera cost $2k doesn't mean that it ends there to make a 7d workable you need to spend another $5k on accessories.

Sorry I meant 'film' as in 'Video'. Something like this?
- you're not going to get the hollywood depth of field for 1-2k unless you go slr.mnmlst

then yes, plenty of video cameras. but why? for what specifically? and why simply not \hire a pro who will answer al your questions?

cool - good point. Maybe all the people posting questions here in the QBN should hire PROs to solve their needs.
That dude asking for pictures of naked women on "chick of the day", should hire a professional hooker.
That other guy asking for font advice, should call a typographer.
Whoever needs an opinion on whether "Straight is the New Gay", please contact a professional Psychologist and sort yourself out.

u guys r kidding me, right? you really think my comment was related to "hire a pro to answer your basic questions" and not like "hire a pro to shoot your project" ? (slams his head against the wall).

That Sony sounds like the way things should be going...
'Proper' film cameras with interchangeable lenses.

as in film, you mean cinematography I'm sure.

the reason SLR's are so popular with video, really is because you get to use decent glass - therefore get that cinematic DOF.
a video camera for the same price will have more videoy-features, shoot for long lengths of time, perhaps better video-specific sensors -- but for that price will in most cases look just like cheap video.

Once you have your film camera you'll discover, film ain't cheap.
take 1
take 2
take 3 fuck this is getting expensive.

same quality as compact cameras? are u on DMT?
- fxone0
if youre talking about HD resolution (AKA 1920x1080) then talk about resolution, not quality which you absolutely cannot compare...

Yeah no. There's not much you can do. That's why DSLRs have become so popular. If you do want to use a vid cam, you can always get a 35mm adapter that will allow you to mount SLR lenses and get that shallow DoF. Unfortunately, you'd have to spend $3K+ on the vid cam anyway, so I'd just get a DSLR.
If you're so worried about something being overhyped, go shoot with an HVX200 ($3K+) and a canon t2i ($700 body). You tell me what image you like better.
Also, you have to buy the same amount of accessories for an camcorder style cam as you would a DSLR (matte box, follow focus, rails, cage, etc...), let alone the fact that you can't easily change lenses.
Audio is easier on camcorders, though. Aaaand, that NEX-VG10 looks pretty sweet. I wonder how the lens selection is/will be.
- those adapters eat light, so you have to shoot at higher ISO, get grain & heavy rig on tripod...changes shooting style alotvaxorcist
- Audio with XLR is nice, but we've used Marantz digital audio recorders instead mostly...vaxorcist
- those marantz recorders are goodMikeColdFusion

Ricoh make one, R1? Daido Moryiama uses one if you google that, I forget the exact model.

HVX200 is pretty nice for what it is.... also less rolling shutter than the DSLR's
if you're not really sure you'll use it alot, RENT, do not buy, as all these gizmos depreciate unless you sell them within a year or so....
- on a tripod in low-ish light, DSLR's do very nicely, that's their sweet spot....vaxorcist

This is the internet, meaning everybody - even the ones without experience can contribute.
This is mostly design forum, meaning most people here have very rudimentary understanding of video/film/cameras.
Do yourself a favor and post your questions on dvxuser.com or similar camera/film making oriented forum.
- you just started filming 3 years ago, you posted it here you fuckin idiot, quit acting like your some kind of guruGuyFawkes
