apple -> revenue from end users. products ultimately serve the end user.

google -> revenue from advertisers. products ultimately serve advertisers.

has there been any talk of battery life?a hefty battery is going to be needed to keep a hi-res screen and all that ram ticking over.

I wish you hadn't called it "iPad Killer" because every time that you hear XX Product is the Established Product Killer" means that it's going to be a huge flop.

I look forward for something like this brings flash back (haha, see what i did there?)

Also, before making statements like "Apple will be dead in the water soon" you kind of have to put the relative success of the two companies in perspective. Apple is making billions from iPhone/ iPad. By the end of the year, I wouldn't be surprised if that revenue is slightly more than what they make off their sales of desktop computers and laptops.

Google is making billions too...from the core business they've relied in all along, search advertising. They are not turning a profit from Android yet that I am aware of. Nor will they probably be, anytime soon, from tablets or Google TV.

I think the success of the the iPad sort of took them by surprise, hence the switch to a touchscreen format at the last minute. Their goal all along has been to compete with Microsoft, not Apple, which I'd argue are better suited for. That's why Chrome OS was originally planned to launch on Netbook style laptop.

At its heart Chrome OS was always about this fairly radical idea of an OS that is completely browser based, with all your data stored online, and desktop apps replaced by HTML5 web apps. That is Google's ace in the hole because it would allow them to usurp Microsoft's dominance of business software.

We all saw this coming, right?

The big difference here is going to be the money making part. Apple has a TON of free cash and makes ALL their money from selling hardward (iAds, or whatever their called, is the first attempt at ad revenue).

Google is the opposite. They built Android to give away and dominate the market. But their money comes from ads.

IF, and a big IF, Google can take more and more chunks of the hardware side (even if it doesn't 'make' money, it just takes market share from Apple) then they are going to slowly squeeze Apple down in dominance.

I'd be SUPER happy if Google bought a company like HTC, then they could truly dominate the world!

I think I'll buy some more Google stock today, thank you ;-)

Competition is good. We are going to get some pretty damn nice products in the years to come. Google won't f it up like Microsoft did and is showing they can give Apple a real run for their money.

I was in a taxi yesterday and noticed that the driver had an android phone. Turned out the guy wasn't really into technology, wasn't a geek or a developer - but his point of view was that Steve Jobs was being far too controlling with the Apple iOS platform and that it pissed him off, so he switched and got rid of the iPhone he'd previously loved.

If regular (non-tech) people are already coming to this conclusion, I think Apple might be dead in the water.

    • yeah I have a friend that said the same thing to me, but about itunes, he works for sony thoughMiguex
    • taxi drivers are indeed making the best life decisions. keep taking cues from them.lambsy
    • well if he wouldn't been a taxi driver and someone who use ADOBE's SHIT, he would still had his IPHONE.akrokdesign
    • also iphone's problem is REALLY nothing but AT&T.akrokdesign
    • The taxi driver in question lives in the UK, so AT&T isn't any part of the problem. The reason he's a taxi driver probably has nothing to do with his choice of phone.lukus_W
    • nothing to do with his choice of phone. The point is .. regular non-developers are realising independently that Apple are being too controlling. Everyone likes freedom .. Steve Jobs works against this universal desire.lukus_W
    • being too controlling. Everyone likes freedom .. Steve Jobs works against this universal desire.lukus_W
    • Steve Jobs has freedom to offer what he wants. You, freedom not to buy it. What you want is power to bully him into Flash.raf

    • hahaha that's not from an actual Ad is it?Miguex
    • From an Apple presentation given by Steve Jobs live!utopian
    • I recall this from the presentation. Steve didn't try to hide it, or his feelings about Flash.arthur
