You need the files in there?
If not or have an external HD with the files you need, I would just simply buy one for now and return it. Pay the restocking charge as renting a computer.

Can I buy one and simply return it after some days of use?

You have 14 days to return. You will get charged restocking fee for open box.

Yet, I've upgraded my HD and memory a long time ago, that wont broke my warranty, right?

Just ask them what their return policy is.
Whocares if they think that you just needed to use it for few days. They are still going to take it back regardless.Upgrading HD or memory wont void your warranty. They may not fix it if they think those two are the cause of the issue.

Have you tried attaching a display just in case it's just your screen?

i bought an iMac a while back from John Lewis and after about 5 days decided it wasn't for me. Returned it no questions asked... No restocking fee or anything. Just lost my postage costs. They picked it back up for free too.
