There's a lot to process here. I'll have to get back to yo on this one.

I won't lie, I didn't like it. I prefer a more minimal interface without all the embellishment.

yeah soo much to take in. so many projects

The work you are showing is better than the website that houses the work!
To much to look at at one time. Its a nice idea, if you can make it work better than go for it!

I never knew that a women's size 9.5 = a man's 8
interesting.

1. The transparent vector logo overlay with the glow feels completely out of place compared with the old book style you have going.
2. The sub organization under design is all over the place. You have a client listed (FLOW) for two projects, but then the rest is by type of design. Pick one (I suggest project/client as opposed to Ads, concerts, etc)
3. Lose the lightbox.

Yea way to much style...
A potfolio site should be plan and simple.
The work should speak for itself...

Yeah.. kind of my thoughts also.. It was hard to weed out all the projects, etc, that I have done over the years, so i tried to categorize it as user friendly as I could..

your main nav has a lot of potential for motion, ever consider flash?

+1 for the borg logo.

perhaps narrow down the amount of projects to your favorites which may help with the category. larger thumbnails would be lovely

Some cool work up there, but too much stuff for just a portfolio. Just pick the absolute best stuff, find a good variety, and leave it at that. No reason to show that much work, its overwhelming. I wanted to leave.
It really doesnt even come off as a portfolio site. A lot going on.

Less.

There is a lot going on here...
My first reaction was that while I was finding some really excellent work I was also find a lot of absolute crap work. Most of the stuff in your 'graphic design' section you could just toss.
The next thing I noticed was that the more I browsed the less usable and consistent the site became (lightboxes, subnavigation).
My suggestions: break your work down by client rather than by category. Show us only the best and try to limit it to maybe 15 clients. Now of course, with each client you can show more than one project - unless that project is comprehensive enough to warrant it's own entry.
Next... the navigation / overall style of the site. While it doesn't necessarily bother me in terms of aesthetic (outside of a few inconsistencies) I am bothered by the fact that you don't have anything else in your site that really resembles the style of the site. It's as if they were made by different people. I would tone it back to something much mroe functional. Hell... i'd even go so far as to recommend any of the various folio services out there just to clean up the layout.
Anyway... that's it for now. Refine, edit, repeat.

Is that brain sketch Davinci?

Crisp rectangle thumbs on top of all that texture = no good. I would pull back a bit on the embellishment, get rid of the thumbnails and show us you know how to format copy for the web – create a simple tertiary nav to cycle through a slimmed down list of work, you don't need one for sub categories (flyers, posters etc.), you need one that tells me what I am about to look at. Also, please please make your own close button for the light-box, nothing worse than complacency when you leverage a pre-made component.

Thank you for taking the time to review everything, there is some very constructive and insightful comments/ criticisms. I will take everything into consideration.. First by fixing the sub nav,/categories, and slimming down the content.
