say you apply, really want a job, but there just aren't any jobs available at this place at this time.
its not healthy to sit and wait, but, it could be a dream come true.

I'm doing this very same thing at the moment. I want to get on a publication as an assistant editor. BUT FUCK. I don't think there's a single opening. I also want to shoot some lifestyle and editorial work and NO ONE is bothering with me.
Heres hoping!
Ive been getting dates to meet with Chief Editors and Owners of everything under the moon to harass them with my work! I think the best bet is not to let them forget you.

check spelling. (should be done by more then one person)
check quality of work. (make sure you have you best work up)
portfolio (on and offline)
how are you applying for the job? email, phone, walking, send promo piece.
