Glyphs is a new font editor for the Mac, in public beta testing right now. Anyone can download and test drive it, and ostensibly use it for OpenType font design. I've tried it and works pretty nice!

it's about TIME another font editor showed up...thanks for posting
- their screencast is excruciating to watch, but it's incredibly helpful as it is almost a full tutorial on the applicationmonospaced
- I'm really loving this app. It's faaar much better than fontlab, specially for OTmaquito

I just hope that when they do get past version 1.0 and begin selling it that they don't charge an arm-and-a-leg for it like FontLab. If it's reasonably priced, and it is full-featured, they can take a massive chunk of FontLab's customer base, and maybe even spark a new generation of type designers. The fact remains that I haven't been able to easily edit/create type since OS 9.0 and that is just wrong.

FontForge is a free editor which is pretty good
- kind of buggy and quite painful to look at though.acescence

Can you take fonts you like, and then change 'em a little bit, to make something new?
- Not legally...duckofrubber
- I'm a scofflaw.boobs
- That's a great way to familiarize yourself with typefaces and the process of type designing.monospaced
