rascuache I did a pretty strange painting pattern
- 4 coats primer,
- 2 color
- 2 clear
- 3 color
- 2 clear
- 1 color,
with long drying periods between each,
I wanted a matte finish, but it ended kinda smooth.Bam, I would love to try it, but I mess up, I'm back to square one,
only thing I could do is paint silver on top of it.- Hehe wow that is strange, glad you put clear on. I didn't, and the paint chips if you so much as look at it the wrong way :(rascuache
- oh yeh and don't worry bout the lugwork, that would have been a BITCH to mask up! Looks awesome as it israscuache
- you could pinstripe the edges of the lugs if you wanted to pick them out a bitrascuache

it looks awesome indeed, but i agree with dMullins on the ornaments, isn't there a way to remove the paint again from the little bits? nice going so far anyway!

Did you clearcoat/laquer the colour?
- ORAZAL0
looking good!

what sanding technique did you use, hand or electric?
- both, I had to clean lots of rust so I used the electric sander on those parts, hand for the restgeorgesIII

you should take it and get it powder coated, it will be like $100 and be way better than spray paint(that's what youre using right?) both aesthetically and with regard to durability
- wayyyy over budget,
if I wanted to invest that much I would have bought a newer 2nd hand bike :)georgesIII

shoulda left those ornaments silver, it would look awesome!
- it was too difficult with rattle can,

If anything goes wrong with the hand paint job I'd suggest shipping the frame to Olympic Powder Coating in Orange County. I had my frame done there and shipped back to me. Aluminum is $130 for chemical stripping, steel a bit less cause it's sand blasting.

They do all of the power coating for intense cycles. Takes about 5 days total.
- sadly I live in italy.
thanks for the link thoughgeorgesIII

Progress update please!
A few things to note:
* Rattlecanning will scratch easily which means the frame is gonna start oxidising/rusting where bare metal is exposed. Look into getting it powder coated, it'll be a shitload cheaper in the long run.
* Very nice lugwork on that frame
* What are you going to be doing about drivetrain? Whats the BB shell width, rear dropout orientation, rear dropout spacing? It will probably be easier (and cheaper) to go singlespeed or fixed than getting hold of front and rear mech, cassette, and having a rear wheel built up with the appropriate hub. If you want something with a certain amount of clandestine niceness that is.- Disregard the dropout orientation bit, I just saw the pics again.rounce

Wax remover/degreaser: http://www.repaintsupply.com/pd_…
Self etching primer: http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProd…

Go to an auto paint supply store and ask for a wax remover/degreaser. You'll want to prime it with self-etching primer as well.

Ok, I'm almost there,
the frame is polished completely and I would like to clean it up before starting painting. Is there some product I should use or I can go for the normal soap + water team?
