seriously... for a non-pro model test shoot, book 1 or 2 additional models because you know 1 out of 4 won't show up.... or will in an odd mood,etc....
If I want to make sure people show up, I make it clear to them it's a serious shoot... everyone is called twice the day before... and We've got a MUA, a stylist, and they will both remember the names of models who don't show up.... it's a small world once you're in it...

I always mention that they should feel free to bring a friend/family member with them to meetings or the shoot itself, so they feel comfortable.
All my jobs are paying gigs.
I show storyboards, wardrobes, and styling upfront, so they know what to expect.

hire a female assistant.

Yeah probably good advice there.
I have my gf help out with hair & makeup on shoots, and I mention she'll be there for wardrobe, etc. when talking with models.

Should I flatter them? Lay on the compliments really thick?
Should I be aloof and dismissive? Pretend their are other models competing for the casting call, and that they need to compete?
Or should I just keep being professional, honest, and straightforward?

be completely honest.... experienced models can smell stories easily

do you have any work to show them that lets them know it wont be creepy- something without the bugs and flowers
- evanburke0
bjladams: Yes, as I stated earlier, I have a fashion portfolio that i show them.
My flickr account is just snapshots and I haven't updated it in close to a year. :)

for some nervous people, quality is the absence of non-quality signals.... so you get judged by your worst, not your best.... if there are any "random" images on your flickr that don't show you at your best, think about the possiblity that that's what some people will judge you by.... especially if they're already a bit nervous....
- Right, they never see my Flickr account at all.evanburke
- don't want to make you paranoid.... nervous people find things to worry about...vaxorcist

nice phrase vaxorcist
"for some nervous people, quality is the absence of non-quality signals.... "Reminds me of an old boss, who was incredibly smart and it was hard to really gauge what he was thinking. I came to the conclusion with him it what he wasn't saying more than what he was saying.
- interesting... best CD I ever worked for was like that.... kept me guessing & working hardvaxorcist

Models flake out all the time.
Regardless if its paid, free, volunteered etc.
Also depends on what you want them to do, nude / semi nude / etc
- evanburke0
Nah, nothing nude, nothing even slutty or borderline tasteful.

can you post a pic of your self?

2 models flaking out in a year is non-event.

Are you by any chance showing them your flickr account?
- also, by any chance are you not actually a photographer?ThePublics
