This past year I've had 2 models express interest in working with me, only to flake out and never return any more E-mails.
Am I just a total creep?
I have another model I actually shot with, and she is always bugging me to do another shoot with her, so I can't be *that* creepy.
How do you speak to models so they don't just flake out?
- evanburke0
I always mention that they should feel free to bring a friend/family member with them to meetings or the shoot itself, so they feel comfortable.
All my jobs are paying gigs.
I show storyboards, wardrobes, and styling upfront, so they know what to expect.

hire a female assistant.

Yeah probably good advice there.
I have my gf help out with hair & makeup on shoots, and I mention she'll be there for wardrobe, etc. when talking with models.

Models flake out all the time.
Regardless if its paid, free, volunteered etc.
Also depends on what you want them to do, nude / semi nude / etc
- evanburke0
Nah, nothing nude, nothing even slutty or borderline tasteful.
- JSK0
can you post a pic of your self?
- ThePublics0
2 models flaking out in a year is non-event.

Are you by any chance showing them your flickr account?
- also, by any chance are you not actually a photographer?ThePublics
- evanburke0
Tungsten: No, my flickr account is just for personal snapshots. I have a portfolio of fashion photography that I show.
ThePublics: I am not a professional photographer, but I aspire to be one.
Also, it sucks when you live in the middle of nowhere like I do. It's hard to find decent talent around here. And I'm talking like a 300 mile radius.
- ThePublics0
well, you've no chance at becoming a pro fashion photog in the middle of nowhere. Sell all your shit and move to a city, sell drugs if you have to pay rent. Work in porn, do sleazy shit. Fashion is the sleaziest so acclimatize your self.
- You're also trying to break into a dying industry.... um, I mean keep at it !!!! hard work is all it takes!!! gulp.Tungsten

Your future clients will just buy stock anyway...... Waaaaaaaaa!!!!
(wipes tears with a taco bell napkin)I cry because I'm becoming irrelevant too. This industry is fucked.

Ok so you dont look creepy so I dont know what the deal is except that 90% of models are flaky.
Its not you, its them.
- JSK0
now I am curious to see your work.

seriously... for a non-pro model test shoot, book 1 or 2 additional models because you know 1 out of 4 won't show up.... or will in an odd mood,etc....
If I want to make sure people show up, I make it clear to them it's a serious shoot... everyone is called twice the day before... and We've got a MUA, a stylist, and they will both remember the names of models who don't show up.... it's a small world once you're in it...
- evanburke0
Should I flatter them? Lay on the compliments really thick?
Should I be aloof and dismissive? Pretend their are other models competing for the casting call, and that they need to compete?
Or should I just keep being professional, honest, and straightforward?
- vaxorcist0
be completely honest.... experienced models can smell stories easily
- bjladams0
do you have any work to show them that lets them know it wont be creepy- something without the bugs and flowers
- evanburke0
bjladams: Yes, as I stated earlier, I have a fashion portfolio that i show them.
My flickr account is just snapshots and I haven't updated it in close to a year. :)
