Really though, I made an alias incase my boss comes browsing through.

If an organization asks you to do a "marketing challenge" or similar in order to possibly get the job, just walk out of the interview. (Possibly after urinating on their desk and person.)

^ good advice if you've got the past experience and portfolio to show. Skill tests are a totally valid request if you're green and don't really have the background to prove your abilities. This goes for lateral moves too. E.g. a print-focused designer with 10years experience who is moving to his first web job might expect a proficiency test of some sort.

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you are afraid to show us your work then your work must be pretty weak.

Sometimes clients take a few months.... they suddenly get distracted by something different, then they call you in a state of semi-panic and need you to do something immediately... and/or they hire somebody else who messes up then they call you in a panic....
in the past this happened to me after an interview... took me a while to discover that they hired somebody else who didn't do stuff well...
