True! First few seasons are amazing.
Just like twin peaks, the x-files was pretty revolutionary at the time - especially with the steadicam shots (never used for tv before). Did get stale pretty fast though.

If by pretty fast you mean after 6 seasons and a movie.

underrated? are you fucking serious? it was about the biggest thing on tv for freakin years. i don't know how it could have been bigger or more 'rated'?!? fucking hell. are you for real or are you 12 and missed the whole thing when it was on tv?

same response as airey... dude must be 12.
show was a massive success in canada, although partly because the good seasons were shot in vancouver.

Underrated as in most people (that I know anyway) don't think of it as a serious show at all, even though the first few seasons were actually really good. Not underrated like no one watched it.

I think part of the reason it feels underrated is because so many people have built off of its foundation. Looking back it doesn't seem so revolutionary, but it actually was some cool shit. Now go back 50 years to the original Twilight Zones and see that those guys were thinking about some seriously out there stuff.

I've been going through the first couple seasons here and there on Netflix. The first movie was wonderful. Sucks they made that shitfest second movie because it was worthless and a waste of everyone's time.
- yeah, and it had nothing to do with the paranormalmonospaced
- yeah the 2nd film was utter shite. more like an ep of 'wire in the blood' without a decent script than xfiles.airey
- anyone that had anything to do w the second one should be shamed for life, just lazy stupidityformed

"the last four ot five seasons were pretty much shit from what I could tell, and the movies weren't anything to write home about, but the first couple seasons were awesome"
this, exactly.
i loved the show when it was a monster-of-the-week format. then they latched onto the soap opera black alien goo and the shit with his sister and i lost all interest. it's just not that compelling of a story to me.
tooms, fluke, that episode with the jim rose sideshow, gimme more of that

Yeah, I always thought the serial episodes were the best ones (when I was a kid). But, re-watching it recently I've discovered that the monster-of-the-week episodes are actually the good ones. The serialized story line is too heavy handed while at the same time kind of boring. The long poetic monologues are pretty great though, and for TV at the time they're pretty "out there".

"It begins where it ends, in nothingness. A nightmare born from deepest fears coming to me unguarded. Whispering images unlocked from time and distance. A soul unbound touched by others but never held, on a course charted by some unseen hand. The journey ahead promising no more than my past reflected back upon me, until at last I reach the end, facing a truth I could no longer deny. Alone, as ever."
