Hi Guys, in indesign is there anyway to get your text sizes to show in mm rather than points? I'm sure i changed it once before but can see it in the prefs.
I know you can type the text size in mm into the text dialog box... but it changes it back to points...
any ideas?

click on the ruler, while holding control or option. you get the popup menu, picked your choice. (inch, here) :-)

Ah yeah, but i mean the text in the text size, leading box etc under character

it is also under Preferences > Units

Yeah changed them to mm but it doesnt seem to change the text size, leading etc in the character panel?... it just changes the rulers etc...

hmm, its really frustrating.. i would like to make set my baseline grid in mm (ive always been confused as to why you would use points in a document that you usually set and measure in mm's) and also set the text in mm, but at the same time be able to switch back to points.

fwiw you can type mm in the size field, it will automatically convert to points. alternatively, convert text to paths and adjust size in mm, but no need to tell you it's a pain in the ass

Hi jimbojones, cheers. Yeah i type it into the size field and it works well... just be good to be able to switch between mm and points so you can double check... im much better at knowing if the text size is ok in points but want to use mm to tie in with the whole grid/page etc

even though it converts them to points its still using the measurements you typed in... whats the big deal?
- JamesBoynton0
Because like i said i would like to flip back to points as i fin it easier to visualise... its not a big deal, i just thought it was possible to choose.

Ahh right got it... but it doesn't change the text size being in points in the character panel...
- Does it really matter? It's not like if you type in 18mm then the type will be exactly that size. Just adapt bro.monospaced
- Type always has pt unit.
It's a rule.

I use metric for everything but design, this is blowing my mind.
