Okay .. what is the best image format to use these days?
I like png because it can work like a gif or jpg
png-8 and png-24 .. but is it supported on all devices today? mobile, etcanother thing I have noticed is some web sites don't recognize png .. for example .. if you post a url into facebook status .. it shows you gif/jpg thumbnail options but doesn't recognize the pngs on the page

personally, I just stick with .bmp!
With all this new wacky formats like .gif and .jpg, I just can't keep up.

i thought there was an issue with png24s and ie. png8s are good for k size, though for gradients i've found jpgs don't have probs with the banding.

jpg still has its place for highly compressed photos. png beats gif in terms of filesize and quality every time.
how about some love for svg though..?
- when ie9 comes out, all major browsers will have supportzr

try the filter - bit thread on this...
each does a good job of different things... they are not comparable.

PNG for transparency is nice, especially for browsers that can't handle CSS3. But for browsers that do, CSS3 transparency and gradients can replace a lot of PNG background images, resulting in faster load times.
