Does anyone know of a good way to produce a smaller version of the scoreboard on top of ESPN.com? I'm looking for a system that's easy to update for a client, with about 6 or so scores.

To producs a scoreboard (NBA, MLB, NHL) you have to purchase/license the actual gameday data from one of the news services that provide it.

or you can just buy this

Let me rephrase; I just want the functionality of the ESPN scoreboard with the ability to easily enter in scores. This is for a private college's athletics site, so no NBA/MLB/NHL stuff.

i'd go the php mysql route. Create a simple admin area.
One page to view/edit/remove records and one page that adds records.
The add page would have input fields to update the table.

or buy a pre designed flash template that allows you to change the values in an xml file.
www.flashden.net is a good place to look.
