I would say a lot of it is sculpted in 3d...the detail and quality of the close-ups shows some complicated reflections that can probably only be done in a 3d package. In saying that I think some of it could be done in Illustrator or Photoshop with vector shapes and layer styles.
- I would say the splines were started in Illustrator. Then maybe 3D, maybe a lot more Illustrator.CyBrain

I saw his work in a recent digital art mag and I didn't happen to notice what software they said he uses. I wouldn't be surprised if they are illustrated with illy and photoshop...though this one definitely looks 3d, its probably both, text in 3d first then embellished. bePance is blocked round here BTW
- why is it blocked? krop competition?indian_pole
- something like that, I've wondered myselfeieio

I'd imagine its drawn in illustrator and the he uses some plastic wrap or some such filter and lighting effects (all be it very well) in photoshop.

Yeah set, I've had a good ol' look and while it would take ages to do it in 2d or 3d, you could do it in either I reckon. For some illustrator, but others in 3d, like the tongue illys.

If I was going to try and replicate that, I'd start in sketch forms, scan and vectorise them in Illy, then colour and inflate with 3d-ness in Photoshop, using filters then tweaking output by hand.
but that's only because I'm a total spacker when it comes to fancy 3d rendering, where I wouldn't even know where to begin.
That 'Run with the original' Nike piece certainly looks like it has 2d origins.

Whatever it is, he sure has worked damn hard to contribute some very fine pieces to last week's aesthetic.
I would say though that no 3D apps were used.
