Unbelievable. I'm not gay, but people should be able to do whatever makes them happy, they should be able to love whoever they want without government interference. People can judge them if they want, but they shouldn't sit in a prison for this.

Wow. If you are gay and live in Africa, gtfo now if you can. Still applying colonial-era laws about sexuality? That's just.... really sad.
- Kiggen0
Its really sad to hear this kind of news...
- georgesIII0
here we go again,
57 countries but still treated like a single entity...this is sad but is better than the way they are treated in Dubai or UAE??
- Executed right? Or tortured?CygnusZero4
- You are correct georges, apologies. Perhaps there are some modern points of view in other African nations, just none that I'm aware of...BuddhaHat
- that I'm aware of.BuddhaHat
- I know I often feel that people get involved in a cause only when it hits mainstream media,
untill then it just don't existgeorgesIII - for me in this case you would be correct, I never learnt about these draconian laws...BuddhaHat
- sorta wish I could change my post now... oh well.BuddhaHat

btw: I hate when people just take a single tidbit but don't go in deeper of what are the causes of the whole issue,
guess who brought this kinda politics in "Africa"http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/po…

indeed Archbishop Henry Orombi and Pastor Martin Sempe have been leading a campaign in support of the government’s bill. Both men are associates of the American evangelist Rick Warren, another prominent anti-gay visitor to Uganda. Warren, pastor of the powerful Saddleback church — America’s eighth biggest — was invited by U.S. President Barack Obama to give the invocation at his inauguration and has been named by both Time and Newsweek as among their top 15 world leaders. His book, The Purpose Driven Life, has sold over 30 million copies and is much read in Uganda. Naturally, the Church of Uganda is vehemently against gay clergymen and when retired Bishop Christopher Senyonjo preached tolerance toward gays in 2005, Archbishop Orombi not only forbade him to preach but stripped him of his pension.

GeorgesIII, we don't want to generalize Africa,
but a friend of mine (who's parents where congolese refugees) did a study about the hostility towards gays in the African nations and the results where very bad. But the same you can say about the old sovjet states. Or Korea, Japan, China, ...Just let people love the ones they want...
Saddening to see this hate.

It's funny when you read the comments on that yahoo article too. All kinds of religious nuts congratulating them for punishing them like this.
Really? That's what they taught you in church? Glad I never went to church when I was growing up. I think I turned out a better person.

I'm getting tired of always having to defend Africa at every turn,
either you have some interest in this huge continent and get informed about it on your own or you don't,but you need to stop complain about it when the media shows you only the negative side,
in all my life I've rarely seen a good depiction of this continent on tv, but strangely most of my "western" friend that travel there come back transformed, they rarely talk about it the same way they did before,
we all have preconception but it is kinda annoying to only see a problem when it is too late, you should never jump into a bandwagon without knowing who drove it to the edge,
right now there are huge riots in thailand, people are dying but it is difficult for me to pick sides because both sides are corrupts, but if you only read newspapers you will immediately think that the "red shirts" are the one getting oppressed but if you got your info before and saw the complexity of the issue, it is hard picking a side,
same thing in africa, they are some real evil people in this world (point to my all of fame in the potd thread), you can just jump in and point to an article, you need to explain how they got there and why they got there.

I just wanted to remind everyone about the AIDS population in Africa.

My stepdad is a hardcore christian, does not like gay people at all, always makes comments about them around me and everyone else, but otherwise he's a good guy.
Like I said im not gay but I dont like hearing this at all. A couple years ago he made a comment and I just snapped, "Dude, did they seriously teach you to actually hate people in the bible? Nice fucking book you got there."
He didnt know how to respond, didnt say anthing and hasnt made a single comment around me since. We get along great though, its weird.
- you got your step dad good.... that's a good one.whatsup
- you should get him a bible for christmas,

You're not getting away with in African countries, regardless of what you see on TV, Africa is about as conservative of a continent as it gets.
They'll brick you in Russia. No gay day parades yo.
