How can Twitter be so goddam slow? It's only 140 goddam characters, with no video, and only the merest of images!

Why is it so much slower than Facebook? On Facebook you can put up pictures, and post miles and miles of text.

a tweet isn't as simple as 140 characters, they may reference other users, other tweets, followers, etc., etc.. all of that stuff has to be connected with each tweet at the rate of thousands per second. I imagine they try to scrape by with as little hardware as possible considering, uh, what's they're business model?
facebook has lots more money and over 100,000 servers which they've invested hundreds of millions of dollars in.
