Well, I decided I should let iTunes find some new music for me the other day, so I turned on Genius. I have a huge collection, so I went to sleep and let it do it's thing. This is what I came back to in the morning. 558 albums... all fucked. Anybody had this issue?

Does Genius actually make purchases automatically?
Can you restore your music directory from a previous back up?

SUCKS that it found your OK GO album

Do you have your 558 albums stored someplace else also as a backup?
I won't even let iTunes search for album art cause I'm afraid of something like this happening to my 'huge' collection... sorry mate.

Nope, no backup---it's my own fault really---I just needed to vent. I remember there being an iTunes alternative though for Mac. Does anybody remember what it was called? Sheesh, I'm just happy it didn't fuck with my Serato crates and singles---15,000 songs in there.

Check out Mozilla's Songbird.

i dunno if itunes genius did that... it shouldn't touch the files in your finder, just exports the xml data. i'd be more concerned about a bad disk or super fucked OS in need of repairs.
although you do have My Chemical Romance in there... so who knows.

I agree with inkpink. Genius doesn't do anything to your files.

It was fine last night. I turned on Genius, let it churn for a bit and then went to bed. It's an external drive with lots of other files on it too. The rest of the files are fine. I hear what you're saying though.

I suppose the bright side to it is that I can now weed out the stuff that I probably wasn't listening to all that much anymore like My Chemical Romance (inkpink), and make some room for new stuff. I did have some old school techno stuff though that will be missed.

wow. i wouldn't put anything past itunes. it once deleted random tracks from almost every album i have. and yesterday my full 120GB ipod decided it had "No Music" on it, and I had to restore to blank factory settings.

Get Spotify... much better than iTunes:

Hopefully it's iTunes naming convention and it didn't fuck up your song files. Try the above to see if it works?
