haha, thank you! you're welcome dude, as i say if you have any questions email me! :D
Also, one awesome thing about micro four thirds cameras is that you can use old four thirds lenses on them. These were made by olympus, canon, sigma, leica etc.
and they are dirt cheap! the adapter to connect them to my GF1 cost £30, and i got a 50mm lens for £20, and a 135mm for £40 and they are very very sharp. They are manual focus though.
For example, the 135mm handheld (with no image stabalisation remember) -
then it was cropped down to this (with a bit of unsharp mask) -
there are loooads of cheap old lenses! :D
Also, if i buy a set of macro extension tubes that cost £10 for my 2 lenses - 135mm and 50mm it means i can shoot macro! like so (not my pics) -
this was using Lumix GF1 + Canon FD f/3.5 Macro + Extension Tube
RAWR!! (this was using a massive flash too!)

Canon 1000D is a good start £375... then buy new lenses that will be compatible with a new back as you want to expand...

I'm just about to buy a Cannon Eos 550. Now i'm not so sure! Has anyone got one of these, and /or does it compare to the GF1?

Many thanks to Hombre and after much research I will be purchasing one of these Olympus EPL1s sometime in the near future, possibly at an airport.

ok after reading this thread i want that lumix too! but my reality at the moment is another. i'm considering the canon G11 for it's size (for travel), sensitivity to low light and price. anyone else have this camera?? love it hate it? picture quality?
the E-PL1sounds good too, but keep reading about problems focusing in low light. is the manual focus on the lens? i can handle that if that's the case. i am not a fan of using flash, especially while traveling.
unfortunately i can't afford the GF1 at the moment. but i need a good small camera for my summer travels and that's coming up quick!

X1 is incredibly over priced, and the GF1 or the pen series are actually better cameras.
looks funky though :)

You got it in white??? AHHHH jealous!
What lenses you got dude?i love my GF1 in black and use it for work, so its more appropriate for the professional look, but white is sooo sexy!
yeh jimbo the E-PL1 is the shit, but you might find the plastic P&S feel of it off putting, in which case go for the E-P1 and GF1.

Your very welcome jimbo!
join the micro four thirds revolution!! :D

Homecreative the eos 550d is going to take better photos, But how much better is personal opinion, I know if I had both I'd still leave the 550d at home and continue to take my GF1 with me all the time.
The 550d will take much much better video than these cameras in question. But it's so much larger.
If video is important check out the lumix GH1. Much smaller than 550d and the video is arguably better.
- Cheers dude, I ordered the 550d for the studio, but will save for the GF1 personally!HomeCreative
- good stuff man, a pro motion designer of mine just got a 550d for video purposes! great cam :DHombre_Lobo

Also the Sony nex 5 released yesterday looks promising, but it's really aimed at the P&S crowd, not as much manual control etc.
But it is very very small, smaller than my GF1. And shoots 1080i. The lenes on it are big though, unlike micro four thirds
lenses.

checked out the E-PL1 at a camera shop today... i love it, and if all goes well i will have it in my hands by next week. very excited and looking forward to those extra m43 lenses!
