Apple developing Flash alternative named Gianduia

Gianduia is just an app framework not a Flash rival

I don't get why they say Flash alternative and then in the same article they say it's a framework.
A framework would be equivalent to something like Cake for PHP or Django for Python right? In other words, a standardized way of writing code rather than a new technology itself. But it doesn't suggest anything about an actual Flash alternative (new plugin) or even software at this point.

Canvas with a timeline and tools similar to Flash's UI would 'probably' replace Flash entirely but until then....

That makes sense. I can see Apple coming out with tools to challenge Adobe. Good. they need to competition. Fat and happy they are owning the digital art tools market, for the most part.

I would expect something that makes working with canvas vector graphics as easy as it is with Flash - I hope this is it.
Just a look at Canvas demos here http://www.appleinsider.com/arti… is showing that the gap between webkit (Safari, Chrome) and other browsers is getting larger. We might be at a dawn of a new browser deal: those that support the new features and those that don't. The old web and the new web.
Apple first tried selling Safari to Windows users, this didn't exactly pan out. Chrome, though, gets more traction and it is the same webkit engine – Apple's window into Windows world.
- Haha... just checked those examples in latest Chrome, they completely blow, only the last one works...raf

Yea but it says nothing about a WYSIWYG program like Flash. Now if Apple is smart, they are working on one - but it says nothing in the article.:)

So the rumors have been true. Apple is developing it's own flash alternative.
http://www.appleinsider.com/arti…- That would be a timeline in the same thread...fyoucher1

description of Gianduia vs. Flash and current uses on apple.com

Yup, it's called, write the most sensational headline whether it's accurate or not, and maybe it will be picked up by big news organizations and drive millions of hits to your site.
That would never work though right? Actually yes...

So is Gianduia more akin to jQuery? Is that the deal?
- raf0
Well, the opportunity lies out there for someone to write canvas/js authoring software similar to Flash.
Is some future millionaire working on it somewhere?
Pixelmator, while not a Photoshop killer yet, surely on a way to become a contender was released by two brothers.

Cloud Browse Flash App Is OK With Apple
If you want to view Flash video on your iPad or iPhone, there is now an option available on iTunes that apparently has Apple's blessing -- or at least has not yet received the curse of its rejection. Cloud browse works just fine, according to Today in iPhone's Rob Walch, who tested it earlier -- but as of Thursday afternoon, the app was temporarily out of commission due to server maintenance issues.
