What is the highest resolution that you think it's ok to go to for a portfolio site?

i think 1440x900 is the minimum anyone uses now on their computer.
however, ipad is 1024x768.so i'd go 1000x600 for the highest rez.

I did make it so everything fits in 1024 without scrolling. It's starting to look tiny on most of my new computers and monitors. I thought maybe it would be safe to assume a higher resolution for potential employers. Especially with most laptops being wide screen.
- most people do not browse the web full screen, and consult your statsquack

you can use scripting to present an alternate-sized site if the browser window can support it...

I say 900px maximum. Not everyone has their browser windows fully maximized.

All modern monitors support at least 1024 × 768 pixel resolution. 960 is divisible by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 20, 24, 30, 32, 40, 48, 60, 64, 80, 96, 120, 160, 192, 240, 320 and 480. This makes it a highly flexible base number to work with.

There are still a lot of people at 1024. Forget the iPad for a moment... lot's of netbooks coming out, which means smaller screens, lower res and higher DPI. 960 seems like a good call.
