More and more jobs i'm loosing because i just have too much stuff on my website and many potential clients don't want to wave through stuff i've shot that's not related to their project. So I broke down my site by categories and added a new look.
current site:
http://patrykrebisz.compotentially new site:
http://patrykrebisz.com/index_fr…Is the "new site" doing its job based on your pro opinion?

the color palette seems to be all over the place as is the type selection and size. all you do is video and you provide just tiny thumbnails with a quip about the project?? find a grid and use it. i would do at least 2 thumbnails at 480px wide making your two thumbnails as wide as the site with details below.
- u didn't click any thumbnails?pr2
- i did, but it's just too much clicking, just get to it is my pointquack
- but then i would have an avalanche of images that you have to scroll throughpr2
- you are having a hard time minimizing this into a fluid experiencequack
- select 2 strong images per project and move onquack

we're about to make ours cleaner as well, but this system worked for a couple years. http://ultrabland.com/site/work/…
basically, showcasing some, while giving a category and client name to others. not sure if there is anything useful there for you.
- this actually sums up what i was getting at below... pictures are better than words.effort

new site is a step back. way too much going on. main navigation is totally unclear. you don't need to list narrative, music video, etc. umpteen times. it's a design flourish that just ends up being confusing and visually annoying. i think if you have a look around at other portfolios, you'll find that a lot of successful people use a grid layout. why? because it allows you to show a decent amount of thumbnails of work in an efficient manner. if you look at your category pages, you're using no more than 20% of the screen real estate (i.e. the thumbnails jammed against the left margin) once you start scrolling. it's a complete waste, and it's also a problem with your current site.
further, there's no sense of hierarchy. where is the important work? what do yuo want potential clients to know you've worked on at first glance? maybe bubble up some key projects on the home page so you can feature things you're most proud of or that you feel will bring you the most new work.
i would recommend taking a step back and asking yourself exactly what problems you're trying to solve with this redesign. if it's soley to get potential clients to your work in a faster and more efficient way (as you implied above), i don't think you've met your goal.
and, finally, aesthetically, the graphic design is messy, cluttered and hard to parse. if i'm a client, i don't want my eyes buggered up with a bunch of spray paint and weird ascii crap when i'm just trying to find your phone number.
i'm writing quickly so please excuse the terseness here. just wanted to get the ideas down.

this cant be real? the 'new' site is not an improvement at all!

I feel like this is essentially supposed to be a portfolio site - where tom, dick and harry (who aren't designers) can come and view your videos easily and within one click (and a possible scroll) from your homepage.
The current site feels like something I'd expect to see from some esoteric dutch designer who is about creating metaphoric narrative with seemingly random design elements. The esoteric is earned. I would hire a designer (perhaps from QBN) to design your site. Someone who knows grid systems, information hierarchy, and typography. I haven't viewed your work - so i can't say wether or not you are a talented director... and I know more than most that people do not wear just ONE hat - but when it comes to something like this - and your $$$ is on the line - I would hire a specialist to design it for you...

pr2 .. why dont you get one of these designers here to comp something up for you ... (for free .. shhhhhhh dont tell anyone)

I would imagine a lot of designers would trade design work for some professional video work, actually. I remember feeling, at one point, that I had a resource like that for a project I was working on
