If it's just for a forum you can try http://bbpress.org/ is you're a wordpress fan. I've used it once before for a basic forum site and it was ok.

only reason I was moving away from WP is because its hard to customize. Also, I am trying to use services like PSD2WP and not sure if they would support this plug in reskinning.
