As I've just moved flat I found out that today is the last possible day to register to vote.
Can go here and fill out the form and post it first class today the Registration Officer will get it on time.

ah yes because voting actually makes a difference.

Sorry set, voting won't get rid of those immigrants you hate so much. But fortunately it might make a difference for the rest of us

Fuck voting, all I want to do is somehow have Alistair Stewart set in concrete. I fucking hate that little toad.

I can't speak for everywhere in the UK, but you don't have to post it. I've just filled out the form, printed it and handed it over the counter at the Elections Office in Brum - whilst out getting my lunch.
The other 20 people in the queue, forms in hand, must have had no stamps either.- ah cool.
don't have time at the moment to go over there though :(Stugoo

You should still abstain if voting means so little to you.
By simply not showing up, you are just showing that you obviously don't care what your leaders do...
...therefore you can just sit down and shut up when they do something that you don't like.... right?

Oh come on - voting every x years is the thinnest veneer of participatory politics. You're delusional if you think that suffices or in any way makes a difference. Your government is the underlying civil structure - the bit you vote for is the toff with the tie; It makes no difference which.
I'd rather not bother voting, instead wasting my time writing whingey letters to councillors and participating in that sodding ePetition thing, of which I've yet to see any positive result.
I'm still to question my MP about the fucking Digital Economy Bill travesty. That's one thing I *will* bother with in the run-up..

If the people's voice made any difference -
Would we be in Iraq?
Would we support Trident?
Would the 'Robin Hood' tax have so visibly disappeared?
Would we support an Arms industry more focused on American tax revenues than supporting its country or workers?
Would drugs be legislated-against so?
Would we be more tightly integrated into the EU?
&c. &c.Y'know what the worst thing about elections is? It makes all our country's clueless idiots (myself included) think their opinion on complex matters has any weight.
People are idiots - last thing we should do is let them have a say in things.
- you sound like a liberal democrat********
- Sort of - 'Liberal Fascist' is how I've always described myself. I'm pro Nuke, see?detritus

Yeah but if all intelligent people don't bother then we'll end up with the BNP in power because the only people voting would be fucking imbeciles who support shit like that.
- detritus0
Don't be silly, the BNP will NEVER get in - they're a diversionary absorption buffer, there to take the wind out of the extreme right-wing.
I'd be more worried about potential abuses of emergent technology-based social controls (DNA databases, ID Cards, Border Controls, etc etc), but these are the sort of things that are apparently supra-democratic.
