I have an old apple laptop (powerbook), should I sell it for a few hundred or donate it?

Flatten; Give away.
Or, keep it for kids, spare rooms.

In the US I think you can have a tax break if you donate it, worth its initial price if you kept the receipt. But check with your tax advisor.

Give it to a older relative who doesn't have a computer and get them all set up with email, skype, whatever.
It will make them happy and give them more contact with relatives.

Eat it. Slowly.

DO NOT give it to a tech-intimidated relative, you will have to answer lots of phone calls.....

If you're London-based I'd possibly be interested in buying it if it is in good working order.
My girlfriend's iBook G4 is on it's last legs and she needs a replacement, and we're both very short on cash.
I've offered her my old Dell but she's not techy at all and has used a Mac all her life. If it runs a browser well enough and has storage for a lot of photos, maybe be able to run Photoshop (not brilliantly, just for some minor image tweaking) then she might well want it.

+1 for the old people suggestion.

you probs get more (in writeoff) if you donate. i'd looked at reselling my mbp that's maybe 3 years old, and i think it was only worth like 400 bucks.
