Was in one for the best part of a year, sucked major ass and got really expensive, and we were only 200 miles apart. Takes a lot of confidence (in yourself) and trust (in them) to achieve without driving youself crazy - something that probably isn't being helped by some of the comments on here! :P
- hah nope, but thats what I get for coming to QBN for pointers :Pifeltdave

I'm in one now. She's in NY and I'm in London. We've been together for a year and a half. We see each other, on average, every two months for about a week at a time. Long distance has it's + and it's -. But it's working! I'm planing on moving to NY in May to see if it's what we both want. If you're both willing to travel, and if you both think that it's worth the hassle, and cost, than hang-in there...

if she even brings up a "free pass" until you're together again, let her go.

@cannonball: we've got a time table for when we'll be back in the same city. Establishing that helped I think.
- what about contracts and markup fees? have you estimated for hold-ups?iCanHasQBN

Been there. Done that. Advice: unless there are active plans to move near each other, keep it casual, despite what your boner is telling your heart.

i did it for a year. it sucked not being with her, but it made the time we did get to spend with each other that much better. long story short, i moved back to be with her 3 years ago. we have now been married for 2 years :)

Oh yeah, i live in Antwerp, she in Milan. I'm a freelancer so that makes it easy for me to visit.

I'm in a longdistance relationship.
Been together almost 4 years, with half a year long distance.
She's German to ;)

and her being german didn't help either

I tried this a couple of times and both times they failed miserably.
The LDR (long distance relationship) started off well enough, good intentions and all, but soured relatively quickly. Phone calls became less and less frequent, as well as the amount of trips either party was willing to make to 'visit' eachother.
The first ended up in "So I met someone else..." on her end. The second time I saw what was happening and just ended it.
My experience, unless this person is your soul mate, then give it up. It's much cheaper and much less stressful this way.
- sad but true. time to get real and get back out therehans_glib
