Definitely one of the most interesting and exciting initiatives I have come across in a while. Just wondering if anyone has used one, or has built one? Would be quite cool to build one in London if some others were keen to chip in with costs and building it.

I've been following these techs for a while now and will be very keen to make one in tech generation or so - once the output is a little finer, cleaner and quicker. They seem more caught in the domain of a geek's proof of concept, rather than something suitable for the creation of marketable items.
If you're new to RepRap, you might also be interested in CupCake too. http://www.makerbot.com/ (Though I believe the RepRap may be older and better developed...)
If you do pursue this a bit more keenly, drop us a line - I might be able to help you laser cut some of the components, Kidswift.

Thanks detritus, so you have a laser cutter then? I will definitely be looking your up next time I have captured a meddling secret agent and I need to create and elaborate death scenario.
Was thinking it would be cool to do a London QBN RepRap especially if we can find another one in London to build the parts from. I would love to use one now and then but hardly justify having one for myself and would be happy to help pay and build it if someone has a big studio to put it in and will get more use from it.

One of the reasons I moved up here was so that, over the long term, I'd have the space to build something like this. I had hoped someone here was going to build their own CNC miller too, but that's not quite panned out, sadly.
But yeah - not now, but sometime soon, I'd definitely be up for exploring this kind of tech - I'd originally been hankering for a proper 3D printer before I settled on a laser cutter.
Economics aren't quite there yet for 3D printing.. though I did see some ridiculously cool lampshades done with fairly common, cheap 3D printing tech, at a design show down Earl's Court way last year. Going from about £300 a pop. Fairly geek, but totally cool. I'll try and dig out an image...

Cool would like to see it. I agree they are pretty geeky at the moment but I think with a good simple design you could still create some pretty awesome pieces.
So have you escaped from L-town then, where are you at now then?

Woa! I'll be back in London in June. I would totally be down for this. If they say 500 euros I imagine the reality is about 1500 once you through in a few mistakes, time spent, and some 3D printing plastic to test with. But split this across a few people and it won't be too bad.

Have started a post on their forum http://forums.reprap.org/list.ph… and will read through previous posts properly later on to see if I can find someone in London who can build all the parts for us and what they would charge. I think we could definitely make one for say 300 pounds max possibly cheaper (They quote 350 Euros if you build from scratch). But it would be a cool thing for us all to own and even make a few collaborations with. I would love to have access to one but could never justify having one for myself.
