One of the reasons I moved up here was so that, over the long term, I'd have the space to build something like this. I had hoped someone here was going to build their own CNC miller too, but that's not quite panned out, sadly.
But yeah - not now, but sometime soon, I'd definitely be up for exploring this kind of tech - I'd originally been hankering for a proper 3D printer before I settled on a laser cutter.
Economics aren't quite there yet for 3D printing.. though I did see some ridiculously cool lampshades done with fairly common, cheap 3D printing tech, at a design show down Earl's Court way last year. Going from about £300 a pop. Fairly geek, but totally cool. I'll try and dig out an image...
