This year for April Fool's Day YouTube is offering its HD videos in text form. Click on a hi-res video and in the right corner where you would normally see options for 360p / 480p / and 720p you will also see TEXTp. Here's an example :

From a few years ago: I wrote a script to take apart movies frame by frame and convert them to ASCII. And then play that ASCII text back by printing and scrolling really fast in Terminal. I made this cheesy video with it : http://stewdio.org/myfirsttime
Then of course a month or two later Apple publishes a QuickTime script that converts movies to ASCII on the fly. Bastards. And now YouTube ;) But still . . . I did it in a Terminal text window. That's hardcore! (Attempting to comfort myself here after realizing how irrelevant my "inventions" really are.)
