ok so if i tab in the 1st line of a para, and then hit command | (the long vertical line) it indents the text after the first line to the tab.
what i would like to know is how to clear this indent after i have done it? it is screwing up my paragraphs.
any ideas? thx in advance.

I know that the "cross symbol" makes this a function, not a phenomenon. You should only need to use Shift-\ to type the vertical line. Beyond that I'd need more details to help.

i don't want to type the vertical line. that command (command+|) is the indent function. i want to know how to clear the indent it creates.

To finish with using that indent point and continue with a new paragraph or line use a hard return.
Otherwise, you need to insert the cursor at the point you set the original indent and backspace or delete it.

cmd + \ = insert to here.
therefore anyline after shall align with the indented dagger.are you looking to have the second line remain UNindented?
you can always change the First Line Left Indent in the Paragraph palate.

showing hidden characters with 'option command i ' will make it easier for you to see what you're doing, then you can use 'command \' (daggers) and 'returns' to control your paras
