In a statement released today Adobe announced that the company will break with its traditional approach by introducing no new features with CS5.
"We think what our customers want is honesty," a spokesman explained. "Think back over the past decade of releases. Can you name a single useful feature that was introduced in CS4, 3, or 2? I mean, cmon, the bones tool? Not even I know what that does."
"We expect this approach to produce significant cost savings," he added.
At the same time, Adobe outlined what WILL be in the new release. "It will have the number 5," the spokesman said. "Instead of CS4, you'll be able to say you have CS5. We've also been working over the past 9 months to redesign the color of the Creative Suite desktop icons."
He added that the loading graphic for Photoshop CS5 will be "breathtaking."

- CS5 Flash better F*** rule. and whats with this logo redesign and fancy intro/open. They better have actually done something to the tools. F***SH*t! CS4 not bad but nothing special really I use cs3 at home could have stayed in CS2 i think. CS4 flash is buggy and the saving in Ps is too! :phiatus

It's true. Software upgrade money is better spent on hookers and blow.

So does anyone know when the Trials will be available?

AI - "Now you can number and easily reorder artboards".
Well, thank fuck. That's a basic fix. Really, we just want CS4.1 with fixes, don't call them 'new features' and mark it up as an entire new release!

CS3 here and see no reason to upgrade. Granted, I do more php than inDesign these days, but it's still more than capable in my eyes.

Anyone have an idea when CS5 trials will be available? Buggered if I'm going to pre-order this without trying it first.

Here's a post from a painter who participated in the closed beta on how the new wet paint and brush system works in PS CS5, for my illustrator homies out there.

Hopefully it'll have more compelling features than that 3D shit in Photoshop. If you need 3D learn a fucking 3D program there is a shit load of them to choose from, its not that hard.
Also hopefully they fixed Fireworks this time

The last feature I cared about was aligning points in illustrator. That was either CS2 or 3?
- you can do that in CS4monospaced
- Yeah I run CS3 and it has it, but I wasn't sure when the feature was introduced.bjm

The good news is CS5 will be available for download on Xbox live and you'll be able to outsource your work to 12 year olds in eastern Europe.
Splendid.

preview of fonts in illustrator? not that i use it for designing so i guess a font preview wouldn't be useful.
i know that every other program i use, including notepad, has this feature, so i probably don't need it in "real design software", but what the heck!- (yeah i know it's in the file menu before you say anything)mydo
