Has anybody known anyone else who has completed SCAD's online MFA program?
It seems like a great school, but I'm a bit skeptical of the online program, and want to see if anyone had a good experience with it.
Thanks

I've heard solid things about the school.... online programs I'm a bit skeptical, but only because online programs in the past have been reserved to those who buy local TV ad space at 3am.
If SCAD has it, I might actually consider it. Pretty cool.

only heard great things about the school...

Sounds like they'll give anyone a degree in exchange for your money. I'd really give a bit of thought about what you want out of an MFA. Honestly, the MFA grads I've worked with from SCAD have lessened it's value to me.

Douglas - how have the MFA students faired against undergrad? Where I went to school, I usually had more respect for the undergrad, but that's because the grad students were from other backgrounds, and thought they were much better than undergrad..but their design skills were rough. Better at theory and talking.

I'd figure out the reason for an MFA (career jump?) I'm just not sure what can be garnered from an MFA where you aren't immersed in the program 16-20-24 hours a day and working intimately/jointly with your other classmates... But Ive learned to never judge a book (program) by its cover...
- basically for the ability to teach... I mean there's no other real reason...SigDesign

I think people who go straight to the MFA without having a BFA often have a lot of catch up to do, unless their other degree was related somehow...

I'm in an MFA now.
So far all my classes could be handled in an online setting.
It's a LOT of personal exploration...you have to be dedicated.
but while else would you do an MFA?I prefer on ground though....I like going to the school and interacting directly....but SCAD has a great Rep....I'm sure it's legit.

If you read the post, I was talking about their online program...

Went here for a year. This school is a joke, especially the Graphic Design department. Great school for fashion and animation, but go somewhere else if you're considering design. Even online. Paula Wallace is nuts and only cares what is best for her and her family, not the school. Go to a non-profit school, rather than a for-profit one.
- thanks for the infoSigDesign
- No problem, it was a terrible idea to go there. They have a good reputation because of the nature of the school and the breadth of students. I had high hopes of having a great experience, but I would not recommend the school for anyone. I transferred to CCS in Detroit, and I love it.pastpastdue
- breadth of program/students.pastpastdue
- But, you heard good things about the animation program? That is my primary interest...SigDesign
- Animation as in 3d animation or motion graphics?pastpastdue
- Well, both... mostly 3d, but also like compositing in AESigDesign
