I won't be proper expat for a while, but I do plan on jumping ship to NY in a few years, once I've got a grasp on the career ladder.
From: Ascot,UK
Currently living: Plymouth, UK
+ It's where my degree course is
- Junkies everywhere, to a point where I've seen smackheads passed out outside a secondary school on my walk home.
- Not much to do
- Not just a lack of cultural diversity but complete cultural ignorance that borders on racist; ME(to stranger):"Do you know if there are any Caribbean restaurants nearby?" STRANGER:"Haha, are you blind or something, theres a KFC just across the road"...To the average Plymothian, Caribbean cuisine is Kentucky Fried Chicken... I guess it's the stereotype that black people like fried chicken, and that's all they know... God I miss London.
Previous/Future area: London,UK
+ So diverse. There is something for everyone
+ Brilliant art scene. Amateur exhibitions, Uni exhibitions, big galleries
+ Music scene
+ General vibe of ambition and desire in the air. Yes, not everyone is smiling, but everyone is doing something with themselves.
- Expensive, but I find it's just expensive because (+) London compells me to go and make the most of my life.- NY cons : need a visa.dyspl
- Need a job offer to get a VISA...goldieboy
- yes, need a job offer.
AND THEN win the H1B lottery to get a visa.dyspl - Where'd you live in Ascot Orrin? I did, tooGordy22
- Near the Ascot oriental, but I moved to Crowthorne early on. Ascot is better known than Crowthorne so I go with Ascot.********
- I've not looked into a Visa much, but my girlfriend is american and we could well be married by then.********

Expat, that's kind. We are usually called worst things than that.
Born: Buenos Aires, Argentina.
+ Family & Friends
+ Good weather, good food, space, great looking women
- Pay is crap, really long hours, the government fucks you up quite oftenLived: Boston, USA.
+ Nice posh restaurants and clubs
+ Quite close to NY
- Weather.. OMFGLived: Malaga, Spain
+ Weather close to perfect
+ Great food, inexpensive wine
- No creativity whatsoever, awful timekeeping even for a S.American
- No movies in original language, shite music sceneLive: London, UK
+ Great parties, (some) cool clients, good pay
+ Really good cultural/music scene
- Weather (but I've seen worse), transport, expensive rent
- Even Expats get xenophobic here
